The students that will represent Lynden High School at the Northwest High School Honor Band have been invited to participate are:

Lianne Tjoelker on Tenor Saxophone
David Anderson on Trombone

The Northwest High School Honor Bands will feature music performed by approximately 200 of the finest high school musicians from Idaho, Oregon and Washington. These outstanding high school students are recommended for participation in the event by their high school band directors and the concert is a culmination of two days of intense rehearsals with guest clinicians. This year's clinicians can be found here.

The Lynden Music Festival is in town!! And there was a chamber music group from the Middle School that performed at pre-show entertainment for the Festival Gala Opening. They called themselves the Lynden Middle School Winds.

2011 SJMEA Honor Festival

The following students have been selected to participate in the San Juan Music Educators Honor Band.

This honor festival brings together top music students in Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan and Island counties to rehearse and perform under the direction of guest conductors. This performance will be held on, November 11th, 7:00pm at Lynden Christian High School Auditorium. An admission charge (under $10) will be charged for audience members at this concert.

How fun is this?!?!

Oh, the dream to have this kind of instrumentation for a spirit band on a high school level!

Greetings music educators.

The State Board of Education is proposing a change in the High School Graduation Requirements which could have a harmful effect on students. They are proposing lowering the elective credits from 5½ to 4, which could make it more difficult for students to take music classes all four years of their high school careers.

If you are concerned, as we are, and would like to share your thoughts with decision-makers, please note the following information and act accordingly.

The most effective voices in ensuring students continue to have reasonable elective offerings are those of parents and other supporters who are from the general community. We hope that you will encourage parents and other citizens to share their concerns with those who will be making the decisions.

The State Board of Education is surveying local school board members requesting their input on this issue. Because the change would affect all areas of the curriculum, we are asking messages be broad-based and speak to individual student's needs rather than just focus on music. We feel this is a stronger argument that will have a greater chance of success, as it could benefit ALL students.

LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS: If you or supporters of your programs were to wish to alert your school board members about the unintended consequences of this action, you might consider sending this message to them:
Because you serve on the school board, I know that you respect the individual needs of students. To this end, when you receive the State Board of Education's Graduation Requirements proposal for reducing the elective credits from 5½ to 4, we urge you to continue to meet individual student's needs by rejecting that option. Students need more, not less, flexibility in making class choices. And the electives should be the student's choice.

STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION: This message is suggested for members of the State Board of Education. Messages sent to sbe@k12.wa.us will be shared with all state board members. You can also check who the individual members of the board are and e-mail any of them directly. That information is found at www.wmea.org.

eScrip Registration Drive

These 4 little babies are just waiting to be given to a music student. I can't wait!! It's one of my favorite things - to give fun prizes to the students.

So what is this registration drive all about? The Safeway eScrip program is our most successful fundraisers. The money we receive goes right back to the students int he form of honor band scholarships, uniforms, instruments, etc.

What do you do?

Between September 6^th – September 20^th fill out the eScrip Safeway registration log (get one from your music teacher) with your friends, family and neighbors Safeway card information. yes, you MUST include their Safeway card number NOT just their phone number.

Turn in the log to your music teacher on or before September 20^th.

For every 2 qualified* names on your log, your name will be entered in a drawing** to win 1 of 4 new 8GB iPod Nano. (see below for the fine print details)

How does eScrip work?

eScrip registers your Safeway club cards as supporters of the Lynden Music Boosters eScrip program. After the initial registration - just continue to shop at Safeway and use your grocery card or phone number as usual. Safeway will donate a percentage of what you spend to the Lynden Music Boosters through eScrip. You continue to receive all your store discounts and there’s no cost to you. eScrip donations support the students in the music programs in Lynden School District.
